What is Platelet Rich Fibrin (PRF)?

Platelet-rich fibrin (PRF) is a second generation to Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP). PRF, is an all-natural solution that can treat areas in the face that show the first signs of aging, like under-eye hollows, deflated cheeks and in the scalp for hair restoration.

Harvested PRP has platelets, fibrin and white blood cells, which helps achieve wound healing, collagen production and improved elasticity. PRF contains a very high concentration of white blood cells, fibrin and a small number of stem cells found circulating in our bloodstream. PRF becomes a gel after 15 to 20 minutes of being isolated and immediately upon being injected into the face or scalp. This process allows it to be used for cosmetic volume and hair restoration.

The health and safety of our patients and staff is of the utmost importance. Blades Wellness and Aesthetics is now open for PRF Treatment by appointment only. If you would like to schedule an appointment, please contact our office.

PRF is taken from your own blood. Prior to the treatment, one vial of blood is drawn. Next, the blood is placed inside a centrifuge designed to separate PRF from other blood components. After spinning, the PRF is harvested from the top of the vial into a syringe. PRF is then used in combination with hyaluronic acid dermal fillers to enhance facial volume. Our practice has had excellent results using a combination of PRF and Restylane to rejuvenate under-eye hollows.

PRF is performed in a series of treatments, spaced six to eight weeks apart. Results typically last one to three weeks and the volume will essentially dissipate. Long-term effects, such as skin tightening, collagen production and enhanced skin quality, may take up to three to four months to be noticed and can last from six to 12 months. The visibility of expected benefits and results of the PRF treatment is typically seen after six weeks from initial treatment.

Most people are a good candidate for PRF treatments, depending on each individual's concerns. PRF can actually thin the hyaluronic acid filler and allow for a smoother, more natural-looking injection for patients seeking filler treatment but have thin skin. Contact our office to find out if PRF is right for you.
